FAQ

  • Do I need a specific vehicle?

A safe, insured personal vehicle (car/SUV/van) is great. Wheelchair-capable vehicles are a plus but not required.

  • Time commitment?

Even 1–2 rides/week helps. You choose your availability.

  • Background check—what’s required?

Standard check via a secure portal; no SSN on this form.

  • Is mileage reimbursed?

At this time, mileage reimbursement is not guaranteed. AFVAS is actively exploring reimbursement options through grants and community partners. When available, volunteers will be notified in advance. Mileage may be tax-deductible as a charitable contribution—volunteers should consult a tax professional.

  • Can a caregiver ride along?

Yes—note this on your application so we can pair the right vehicle.
